The innovative House of Music in the historic Archduke Carl Palace in the 1st district is an interactive sound museum.
Thanks to experience-oriented installations, you can develop your musical creativity by composing your own waltz and virtually conducting the Vienna Philharmonic, among other things.
What Can I Do at the House of Music?
On its four floors, the Haus der Musik takes you into the fascinating world of tone and sound phenomena. In the following we describe the individual floors in detail.
- Floor - Vienna Philharmonic: The Vienna Philharmonic was founded in this building and is still in the same building today. In the rooms on the first floor, you can visit the museum of the world-famous orchestra and marvel at musical treasures from the historical archive, which represent the long musical history of the orchestra. The highlight is the waltz dice game, with which you can compose your own waltz.
- Floor – SONOTOPIA: On this floor, the world of sounds is presented in a multimedia and interactive way, starting with the creation of a sound, through its propagation to its processing. Numerous stations and sound experiments await visitors here.
- Floor – The Great Masters: The 3rd floor is dedicated to the great composers who worked and lived in Vienna. These include Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss, Mahler and Schoenberg. Learn about the masters of Viennese Classicism through historical documents, costumes, and personal items. The highlight is the interactive installation "Namadeus" with which you can hear your name as a Mozart composition, as well as the work of art "Sound Carpet."
- Floor – The Virtual Conductor: Another highlight of the Sound Museum is located on the 4th floor. The "Virtual Conductor" allows you to test your talent as conductor of the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic.
Admission, Tickets and Guided Tours
- Single Tickets: Admission is €14 for adults and €6 for children aged 3 to 11. Children under 3 years enjoy free admission.
- Family Ticket: With the family ticket for €29, two adults and a maximum of three children under the age of 12 can visit the museum.
- Group Tickets: Group tickets are available for groups of 10 or more people after prior registration. The regular price is €10 per person. School groups under the age of 12 pay €6 and school groups over the age of 12 pay €7 per person.
- Special Tickets: The night ticket for €7 is available daily from 8 p.m. Last entry is at 9.30pm.
- Annual Ticket: You pay €39 for the annual ticket HdM-Membercard . The annual ticket for children Pauki Knaller's children's club costs 5€.
- Combination Tickets: Combination tickets with the Mozarthaus Vienna are also available for sale. Adults pay €18, children under 12 €8.

Concerts in the House of Music
“Live On Stage ” concerts take place in the concert hall on the top floor of the museum. There are usually 12 concerts spread over the year.

For Kids
An important goal of the museum is to give children and young people access to the world of music and to set new music-educational measures. Among other things, the "Zookonzert" virtual installation contributes to this - an exciting hands-on fairy tale for kids.
In addition, the Haus der Musik inspires its little ones with numerous children's concerts. Exciting, entertaining and funny children's concerts are offered, which invite you to sing and dance along.

History
The House of Music was opened in 2000. It is located in Archduke Carl Palace, where the imperial casting house stood in the 16th century.
Only at the beginning of the 19th century, when the building was bought and rebuilt by the Austrian general Archduke Charles of Austria-Hungary, did it take on the shape of a palace.
In 1842 the composer and conductor Otto Nicolai moved into the building and founded the Vienna Philharmonic Concerts here. Therefore, the Palace is considered the birthplace of the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which is honored with the Museum of the Vienna Philharmonic on the 1st floor, Nicolai's former apartment.
Founded in 2000, the Sound Museum was awarded the Austrian Museum Prize for its innovative concept.
